God is sovereign in everything including salavation. He chooses according to His good pleasure without any influence outside Himself. Many hate the doctrine of election because they think sinners can influence God to elect them to salvation. Without election, there would be no salvation because sinners are dead in sin and need to be made alive by God's supernatural power. Only the elect will be made alive.
